I made a trip to the coast to look for Elegant Terns, which are in the area this year due to El Niño. I didn't find any Elegant Terns (just one Caspian) but did spend a few minutes with a cooperative male Surf Scoter. A few days later I found a cooperative Bonaparte's Gull, but the highlight of this gallery is the Eastern Kingbird. I went out yesterday morning to look for one that had been reported that morning, but nobody found it until hours later that afternoon. I got another chance to go back and look again this morning, and found it right in the nick of time before I had to head out. Eastern Kingbirds are found in eastern Oregon but almost never here in western Oregon.
